Three silver pointed lozenges
Ås Municipality’s graphic manual describes the arms as three silver pointed lozenges on a red field, arranged two above one. The manual uses the Norwegian heraldic term spissruter for the figures.
From archaeological inspiration to heraldic form
The manual says Aase Weydahl-Ottesen made the first draft inspired by finds from the Stone Age. During the approval process, the National Archives pointed out that Stone Age tools do not belong among heraldic charges; the final design therefore used pointed lozenges that can recall such tools. Truls Nygård completed the drawing. The municipal council adopted the arms on 25 March 1982, and a royal resolution approved them on 23 July that year. The municipality links the three figures to the parishes of Ås, Nordby and Kroer, and the silver to the stone axe.
