Swedish description in the Heraldica record SV
The text below is the Swedish description in the Heraldica record. Whether its wording is an official blazon has not been independently verified. The editorial text distinguishes the current arms from the city seal, following the municipality’s own guidance.
I rött fält en borg med tre torn av silver med svarta fönster på en svävande mark av guld med en bård av guld.
The arms and seal are distinct emblems
Bergen Municipality describes the current arms as a round, gold-edged red shield bearing a silver castle with three towers above seven golden hills. The arms do not include the inscription around the edge of the seal. The municipality distinguishes the arms, the seal and the logo that combines elements of both.

The medieval seal and the present arms
Bergen Municipality’s guidance records the city seal in use by 1293 and identifies the oldest surviving impression as dating from 1299. The early double seal showed a ship on the obverse and a castle on the reverse. The present arms, adopted in 1924, draw on the castle-bearing reverse but omit the inscription around the seal’s edge.
