The municipality’s description of the shield division

According to Bremanger Municipality, the arms are divided into four blue and silver parts by a swirl line. This is the municipality’s description of the shield motif; it is not supplemented with details taken from the registry text.

The sea, hydropower and approval

The municipality says the arms symbolize the close relationship between local people and the sea. Its page quotes Arkivverket’s image archive, which interprets the motif as a large sea wave; the sea and hydropower have shaped Bremanger, and the local smelting industry relied on developed hydropower. The municipality says Inge Rotevatn designed the arms, which were approved on 24 October 1986.
