Coat of arms of Eigersund
Eigersund’s arms show an upright gold oak leaf on green; the local history source links the motif to the municipality’s name.
Swedish description in the Heraldica record SV
The Swedish description in the Heraldica record is kept separate from the editorial text. Egersund byhistoriske leksikon, published by Dalane Folkemuseum, quotes the 1972 arms definition.
I grönt fält ett stolpvis ställt eklöv av guld.
An upright gold oak leaf
Egersund byhistoriske leksikon quotes the definition as an upright gold oak leaf on a green field. This is the wording reported by that source; the Swedish registry text is shown separately.

The 1972 decision and the motif’s origin
The lexicon says Eigersund municipal council adopted the arms on 28 August 1972 and a royal resolution approved them on 20 October. Harald Trætteberg, then first archivist at the National Archives, drew the arms. The idea came from Torunn Edvardsen and Torleif Tendeland, who shared first prize in a design competition. The lexicon interprets the oak leaf as a reference to the municipality’s name.
