The waterwheel in the arms

Lørenskog Municipality identifies the waterwheel as the arms’ motif, names Carsten Lien as their designer and gives 26 July 1957 as the approval date. The Swedish description in the Heraldica record specifies a red wheel on a gold field; this registry wording has not been independently verified as an official blazon.

A motif linked to sawmilling

The municipality says it chose the waterwheel because timber extraction and sawmilling were major historic industries in Lørenskog, and the wheel powered the saw. In the municipality’s account, the motif can also represent a modern suburban municipality with industrial growth.
