Swedish description in the Heraldica record SV

The Swedish motif description in the Heraldica record is not used here as a substitute for an official 2019 blazon. Sandnes Municipality’s 2019 report confirms that the city arms were chosen for the new municipality; SNL describes the 1972 arms separately.

The description of the 1972 arms

Store norske leksikon describes the arms approved in 1972 as a silver leirgauk, a clay whistle, on a green field. This is SNL’s historical description; the municipality’s 2019 report records the selection but does not give the blazon wording.

The city arms adopted for the new municipality

Sandnes Municipality’s 2019 annual report says the arms project was completed and the joint committee adopted Sandnes’s city arms for the new municipality under case 8/19 on 7 May 2019. SNL names Johannes Haukland as the designer of the 1972 arms and links the clay whistle to the city’s ceramic industry and the Sandnesgauk, a type of ocarina. This interpretation is attributed to SNL.
