A silver club on green

Sør-Fron Municipality describes the arms as a silver club set diagonally on a green field. The municipality names Amund Rudi as the designer. On flags and printed materials, the club is often shown in white; this note concerns visual use and is kept distinct from the arms description.

Approval in 1988 and the municipality’s account of the motif

The municipality says the arms were approved by royal resolution on 4 March 1988, although they had already appeared on the cover of Sørfrøningen in October 1987. In the municipality’s account, the club recalls the story of Kolbein Sterke and the club he used in the meeting between Olav Haraldsson and Dale-Gudbrand at Hundorp in 1021. The municipal page connects this account with Snorri’s kings’ saga; it is presented here as the municipality’s explanation of the motif.
