Coat of arms of Trondheim
Trondheim’s arms are based on an older city seal whose imagery changed over the centuries.
Swedish description in the Heraldica record SV
The text below is the Swedish description in the Heraldica record. Whether its wording is an official blazon has not been independently verified. The editorial text is based on Trondheim Municipality’s guidance about the city arms.
I blått fält en biskop av silver, en svart kräkla, en kung av silver krönt, en våg, en kyrka av silver, en borg av silver, tre mans huvuden av silver.
The design and colours
Trondheim Municipality gives blue, black and light grey or silver as the colours of the coloured version of the city arms. Its historical account says the arms derive from an earlier city seal, whose figures were supplemented and redrawn during centuries of use.

From seal to city arms
The municipality dates the seal probably to the thirteenth century and says its oldest known impressions are from 1344 and 1439. For the city’s 900th anniversary, Haakon Thorsen drew a version resembling the original seal; the city council adopted it as the city arms in 1897.
