Swedish description in the Heraldica record SV

The Swedish description in the Heraldica record is shown separately from the editorial text. Utsira Municipality’s page quotes the arms definition adopted in the 1982 resolution.

I blått fält fyra motstötande spetsar av silver korsvis ställda.

The 1982 definition of the arms

Utsira Municipality’s page quotes the resolution: on blue, four opposed silver points form a cross. The municipality distinguishes the arms from the flag: the points are white on the flag and silver on the arms.

From lighthouse beam to municipal arms

The municipality says its first proposal was based on the Utsira lighthouse, but the 1976 sketches were not approved. John Digernes was commissioned to design the arms in 1980. The page gives 24 April 1982 alongside the drawing, but also quotes a statement dating the drawings to 21 April; the exact drawing date is therefore left unresolved. The municipal council’s decision of 10 May was approved on 23 July 1982. The municipality interprets the cross form as the lighthouse’s former rays sweeping across Utsira. Its later comparison with a wind turbine is a playful retrospective reading, not part of the arms definition.
