The arms’ design

The municipality says the horse and cogwheels form part of the blazon established in 1918. One possible interpretation links the horse to a Värmland legend of the water spirit Näcken appearing as a white horse; the municipality also notes other theories.

Background and the source’s interpretation

After the 1971 municipal merger, Arvika’s town arms were chosen for the new municipality. The municipality says age, familiarity, a link to a local legend and the town’s size were among the reasons. The legendary connection is presented as a possibility, not a certain origin.
