The arms and their description

The Heraldica record’s description gives the crane a red crest, legs and beak. It stands above the red stone, while two silver waves run along the lower part of the shield.

Background in local sources

According to Bollnäs Municipality’s 2024–2025 situational analysis, the stone held tightly by the crane symbolises vigilance: a tired, inattentive crane would quickly drop it. A 2026 municipal document distinguishes the heraldic arms from the graphic logo derived from them and says the arms will continue to be used in formal contexts.

Heraldic elements

The heraldic elements are identified using HERO, a heraldry ontology published through Finland's Finto service. It provides structured terminology for describing coats of arms and their components. The list describes the structure of the arms, not the symbolic meaning of its elements.
