The arms’ design
The city’s written arms description places two silver wool shears on a red field, with one inverted.
Background and the source’s interpretation
A Borås City document says the arms were established for the city in 1939 and registered for the newly formed municipality in 1974. Borås continued using them after the 1971 municipal reform; the source assigns no further meaning to the shears.
Heraldic elements
The heraldic elements are identified using HERO, a heraldry ontology published through Finland's Finto service. It provides structured terminology for describing coats of arms and their components. The list describes the structure of the arms, not the symbolic meaning of its elements.
