The arms’ design

The municipality explains its choice of blue and green by the area’s forests and lakes. The blazon describes a narrow silver wavy bar between the colour fields.

Background and the source’s interpretation

Work on the arms began after a municipal council commission in 2006. Residents were invited to submit ideas; the municipality says water, forests and communications featured in them. A heraldic artist at the National Archives was asked to adapt the selected design to heraldic rules.

Heraldic elements

The heraldic elements are identified using HERO, a heraldry ontology published through Finland's Finto service. It provides structured terminology for describing coats of arms and their components. The list describes the structure of the arms, not the symbolic meaning of its elements.
