The arms and their description
The Swedish description in the Heraldica record is brief: a green spruce on a silver field. Hedemora’s communications plan repeats the same description.

Background in local sources
Hedemora received its town charter in 1446, and the municipality’s communications plan says the arms were already used as a seal in the 16th century. The municipality chose to retain them. The plan distinguishes the heraldic silver field from the modern mark’s grey-toned background; in formal use, the grey may be replaced with silver.
Heraldic elements
The heraldic elements are identified using HERO, a heraldry ontology published through Finland's Finto service. It provides structured terminology for describing coats of arms and their components. The list describes the structure of the arms, not the symbolic meaning of its elements.
