Kluven i silver och blå, i första fältet ett blått järnmärke, i andra fältet en ripa av silver med röd beväring.

The iron mark and the ptarmigan

A blazon quoted in Kiruna Municipality’s 2012 newsletter describes a blue iron mark on silver and a silver ptarmigan on blue; the ptarmigan may have red heraldic detailing if used. The written description does not prescribe how the bird’s details are drawn in the current image.

A revision of the artwork in 2012

The arms were confirmed by the Crown in 1949. Kiruna Municipality adopted a new graphic profile and revised the artwork of its arms and logo on 17 September 2012. The municipality’s newsletter from that year says the blue area was enlarged and the bird was drawn more clearly as a ptarmigan; these were illustration changes, not a new blazon.
