The gate wall as a city emblem

A red crenellated wall with a gate tower rises from green ground in a silver shield. Two smaller towers flank the gate tower. Lund Municipality describes the arms as a symbol of the city, distinct from the municipal organisation’s logo.

A medieval seal image and the city arms

An impression of the arms is known from a parchment document dated 1354 and held in Lübeck. The municipality explains that the building is a symbolic image of civic dignity, not an exact depiction of a particular historic city gate. The arms were confirmed in 1913 and adopted for the newly formed municipality in 1974.

Heraldic elements

The heraldic elements are identified using HERO, a heraldry ontology published through Finland's Finto service. It provides structured terminology for describing coats of arms and their components. The list describes the structure of the arms, not the symbolic meaning of its elements.
