Coat of arms of Mönsterås

Mönsterås’s graphic profile distinguishes three parts of the municipal logo: the brig Maria, the municipal arms and a name banner. It dates the arms’ establishment to 1955.

Swedish description in the Heraldica record

Sköld genom en fjällskura genom sparrsnitt delad sänkt i röd och silver, i första fältet ett Malteserkors av silver.

The graphic profile describes the arms’ place in the logo and their history, but does not provide a complete verbal blazon. The automatically assembled Heraldica wording is separate registry information and is not presented here as the municipality’s official blazon.

The arms and the other parts of the logo

Mönsterås Municipality’s graphic profile says its logo has three separate parts: the brig Maria, the municipal arms and a banner bearing the municipality’s name. The brig is therefore a distinct logo image, not a charge in the arms. The manual does not describe the arms’ field or charges in words.

The arms’ establishment and the brig Maria

The arms were established for Mönsterås market town on 3 June 1955. When the municipalities of Fliseryd, Mönsterås and Ålem merged on 1 January 1974, they became the new municipality’s arms. Separately, the manual says the brig Maria had Mönsterås as its home port from 1898 to 1908 and was then the locality’s largest vessel; those details concern the ship in the logo, not the history of the arms.

Heraldic elements

The heraldic elements are identified using HERO, a heraldry ontology published through Finland's Finto service. It provides structured terminology for describing coats of arms and their components. The list describes the structure of the arms, not the symbolic meaning of its elements.
