The arms and their blazon
The municipality explains the blue wave as representing the Baltic Sea surrounding most of the municipality and the red fortification as the ancient hillforts of southern Öland. The arms were designed by Sven-Bertil Svensson and have been in use since 1980.

Background in the municipal sources
The municipality says the arms were created in connection with the 1974 municipal division reform. Its current graphic profile keeps the arms distinct from the municipal logo.
