The arms and their blazon
The municipality says the 1621 privilege letter described the arms as a reindeer’s head couped, with antlers and branches. The present municipality names red, silver and gold as the arms’ colours, but the historical wording does not assign those colours to individual details.

Background in the municipal sources
The municipality’s current explanation connects the reindeer with nature, Sámi culture and Piteå’s links to the inland and mountain region. It says the colours represent clarity and dignity; these are municipal interpretations.
