The arms and their blazon

The municipality traces the motif to the district seal of 1568. A red bordure was added when the current municipal arms were composed in 1975.

Background in the municipal sources

The plant has not been identified botanically. The municipality says the bordure distinguishes the municipal arms from the older district arms because their boundaries differed.

Heraldic elements

The heraldic elements are identified using HERO, a heraldry ontology published through Finland's Finto service. It provides structured terminology for describing coats of arms and their components. The list describes the structure of the arms, not the symbolic meaning of its elements.
